Thiru Thengoore Temple, Thiruthuri pondy.

  1. Thiru Thengoore:



    The Thengoore is about 16 Kms north of Thiruthurai poondy / 15 kms south of Thiruvarore. This temple is one of 275 Siva Devara sthalam.







    Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Vallimalai Nadhar facing east and his consort known as Periyanayaki Amman.



    Teertham is known as Sivagangai and Sthala Vruksham is Vilvam.



    As per sthala puranam at the end of the yugam, everything was washed away by ocean. This place was left unaffected and surrounded by water, hence the name Thengoore. The place is rich with coconut tree hence the name Thengoore.



    Thirumagal worshiped Lord Siva which is seen in front of the sanctum. Navagrahas, Ganges, Beeshmar, Dhronar, Agalya and Pandavas worshiped Lord Siva of this place and were blessed. There are nine Siva lingams worshiped by Navagrahas is seen as we go around the prakaram.




    Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Appar and Sundarar also contributed poems on praise of Lord Siva of this place. Stone inscriptions are seen in temple.
