Thiru Kodi Kuzhagar: Kodikarai, Nagapattinam.

The place Kodikari is about nine kms from Vedaranyam. This is one 275 Siva Devara Sthalam. Renovation work is going on.

Main Deity: Swayambu Lingam known as Amirthakateswarar and his consort known as Anjanakshi Amman. Lord Subramanyar is seen with Amirtha Kalasam.

Sthala vruksham is Kura Maram and Sthala vruksham is Agni teertham (ocean) and well known as Amudha Kinaru.

Other deities seen in the temple are Brahma, Lingothbavar and Durgai as, Koshta Deivam and Ganapthy Lingam when we go around the prakaram.

Importance : When Devas and Asuras churned Thiruparkadal for Nectar, many things came out of Ocean and finally they got the Nectar. Vayu Bagavan was carrying the Nectar pot, Asuras created wind storm. Pot tilted and nectar fell down which formed as Siva Lingam and some Nectar was collected in a pot by Lord Subramanyar. Here we see Subramanyar with Amirta Klasam. Arunagirinadhar sang Thirupugazh on Lord Murugan of this temple. Navagra’s are in a line, facing same direction. Here Navagrahas are watching the marriage cermony of Lord Siva and Parvathy.

Sthala Purana says this place is near to Sri Lanka. Lord Sri Rama was looking out place to construct a bridge and reach Sri Lanka to rescue Sita. Sugreeva suggested this place for Rama, which leads to Srilanka from back side. Lord Rama chose Rameswaram, which leads to front entrance. Sri Ramar Padam is seen in the temple. Sri Rama worshiped Lord Siva of this place.

Thiru Navukkarasar sang Hymns on Lord Siva of this place.

This is fascinating!! I did visit Vedaranyam and Kodikkarai a few years back, but didnt know about this temple.... and about the navagrahas, I remember noticing that in many temples around Thiruvarur, the navagrahas were in a line... and even at some places around kumbakonam and thanjavur, they were facing each other or in different postions unlike the ones we see normally. any idea why this is so?
