Sthala Vruksham is Jack Tree, and Teertham known as Akasha Teertham. The location of the tank to south east corner is something special according to Vastu rules.

Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Thooai Nadhar and his consort known as Panjinmeladi Ammai. Urchavar of the temple is known as Sathyavakeeswarar. There is an eye symbol on Siva Lingam which is visible at the time of Abishekam.
Sthala Purana says when the tides of sea burst and threatened destruction of the world, Devas and Sages worshiped Lord Siva for protection. Lord Siva told them if a tank is dug to the Agni Corner of southeast. Then Prayers to be performed so that tides would subside and lives would be saved. Durvasa maharishi did everything according to the instructions.
Saint Sundarar regains his vision in this temple. One who has problem regarding eyes, if the tank dip in the tank and worship Lord Siva with (red) Sevarali Garland there problem regarding eyes will be solved says Sthala Purana.
Saint Sundarar made a promise to his second wife Sangili Nachiyar that he would never part with her at any instance. Once he wanted to see his first wife Paravai Nachiyar, and he left for Thiruvaroore. By violating the promise to his second wife Sangili Nachiyar he lost his vision. Sundarar started visiting temples and worshiped Lord Siva to restore his eyes. He praised Lord Siva with Hymns in the temples which he visited. When he reached Ekambareswarar temple of Kancheepuram he was blessed by Lord Ekambareswarar with his left eye sight with the recommendation of his consort Goddess Kamakshi.

When Sundarar reached Thiruvaroore and offered his prayers to bless him, his vision. Lord asked him to take a dip in the tank and then worship Lord Siva in the temple. Sundarar did as he was instructed by Lord, who graced Sundarar his right eye sight here in this place. Once again when he opened the box he saw a child in it. He took the child and named him as Japesar. As the child grew the sage was worried and sad. When the child was fourteen years he started penancing with single leg on the bank of Ayana teertham of Thiruvayaru. His penance was so severe the creatures in the tank started consuming his body. Lord Siva was pleased with his penance, cured him and blessed him long life.

Japesar was married to Suasambikai in Thirumazapadi. Japaser continued his penance even after the marriage. He was made chief of the Siva Ganas. He was named as Nandi Devar and he is security chief at the first gate of Kailash.

Sundarar, Thiru Navukkarasar and Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang hymns on Lord Siva here. Stone inscriptions of Chola, Pandya and Hoysala period are found.

Sthala Purana says once when Indran came down to Bhoolokam he was not able to find a Siva Lingam to do his daily morning worship of Lord Siva. He collected sand from the Cauveri River bed and made a Siva Lingam and performed his pooja. He sang a song to have darshan of Lord Siva dancing.

Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Maha Lakshmipureeswarar facing east and his consort known as Ulaga Nayaki Amman facing south. There is an axe scar seen on the Siva Lingam.

Sthala Vruksham is Vilvam and Teertham known as Neela Poigai.

Selva Ganapathy is seen in separate sanctum here. We see Subramanyar, his consorts Valli and Devanai, along with peacock facing towards right side in a separate sanctum. Here in this temple Muyalagan who is seen under the feet of Dakshina Murthy is facing left with snake in his hand. Dakshina Murthy is seen as Koshta Deivam with his left hand blessing Muyalagan.

Other deities seen in the temple are Bairavar, Nandi, Brahma, Durgai and Navagraham. Here Soorya and Chandra graham are facing each other which are unusual.

As we go around the prakaram we see Parasaurama Lingam worhiped by Parasuramar. There is a Jamadagneeswarar Lingam worshiped Jamadagni Muni which is small in size. Parikeswara Lingam is big in size with Lord Maha Vishnu seen next to it.

Agasthiyar, Parasuramar, Devendran, Iravadham, and Kamadenu worshiped Lord Siva in this place and were blessed by Him.

Sthala Purana says Chola King used to cross this place to have darshan of Thillai Natarajar daily. One when they were traveling the wick went off and they try to light it but failed. Once when they crossed the place it started glowing automatically. This was happening in the same place regularly.

King saw a shepherd there and asked him, did he observe something strange happening in this place. Shepherd told there was a Siva Lingam on which the cow used to pour milk on it. The King found the Siva Lingam and try to remove it from that place, build a temple elsewhere and install the Siva Lingam. They were not able to remove the Siva Lingam and blood started oozing from the place.

So the Chola King constructed a temple there itself. Since the wick went off here automatically, the place is known as Thiru Nindra Voore. Thirumagal worshiped Lord Siva in this place hence the name Thiru Nindra Voore.

A stone inscription is there in the temple. The temple is under Thiru Kailaya Parampara Thiru Darumapura Aadeenam.

Sthala puranam: King Mahabali performed a Yagam, with the guidance of Asura Guru Sukarachariyar so that he can be the first person in fame and status. Lord Vishnu wanted to destroy his ego and teach him a lesson. Lord Vishnu, came to Yagasala as a short person Vamana, and sought for three steps of his leg as Bhodanam from King Mahabali.
Guru Sukrachariar with his powers knew it was Lord Vishnu who is in the form of Vamana. So Guru prevented King from giving Land for Vamana. King Mahabali did not give ears to his Guru’s word and decided to give three foot of Land to Vamana. When he revealed his wish to give land to Vamana, Lord took Viswaroopam to claim three foot of Land. With His one leg the whole of earth was measured and the second step He measured space and asked the place to measure the third step. Now King Mahabali's ego left him and he requested Lord Vamana to place his leg on his head. When King Mahabali was about to pour water in the hands of Lord, Guru Sukracharya took the form of Bee and tried to stop the flow of water falling into Lord’s hands. Lord Vishnu with grass tried to clear the block. Guru Sukracharya lost his eyesight by the grass piercing his eyes. Lord by putting his foot on the head of Mahabali he was pushed down to Pathala Lokam. Since his ego was destroyed. Mrugandu Maharishi approached Lord Brahma to guide him to have the Viswaroopa Darshan of Lord Vishnu. Brahma suggested him to worship Lord Vishnu at Krishna Kshetra which is now known as Thiru koviloore on the banks of Krishnabadra River (River Penna). Maharishi with his wife Mitravathi started his penance.

Lord in guise as an old Brahamin appeared in front of them and asked for Biksha. They did not have any grain to offer the old Brahmin. Mitravathi at this point took bowl in hand and prayed to Lord Narayanar to fill the bowl with food if she was a good wife of Maharishi. The bowl was filled with food and Lord showed His Viswaroopa Darshan to the couple.

Once Poigai Azhwar visited this place and sought a place to rest at night as it was raining heavily. Later Boodhat Azhwar reached the same place to rest. The place was so small that one can sleep, two can sit and three can stand. Two Azhwars shared the place and sat together. After some time Peryazhwar also came to the same place to take rest. Now the two Azhwars shared the place with third Azhwar by, three of them standing. Suddenly they were squeezed and felt some fourth person joining them in the darkness. It was Lord himself who joined them and granted His darshan for all three Azhwars who sang Hymns on him in which they described the darshan of Lord was like a lamp to give light in the darkness. The three Azhwars attained Moksha in this place.

Nalayira Divya Prabandham sung by Azwars was started from this place. Vishnu Duragai is seen in the prakaram. Durga Matha is praised by Thirumangai Azhwar in one of her verses sung against Lord Vishnu.
Sthala Purana says Lord Siva destroyed Demon Antakasura in this place. Anthakara means Ignorance. Once Goddess Parvathy closed the eyes of Lord Siva ,due to which the whole Universe was filled with darkness. Demon Anthakara came out of the darkness. Lord Siva hit, Demon Anthakara on his head with the club in his hand. Blood drops that fell on ground turned to be a Demon. Goddess Parvathy started collecting the blood in a bowl. The blood that fell down became 8 vertical and 8 horizontal lines cross wise and formed into 64 squares. Lord Siva created 64 Bairavas with His power for 64 squares to prevent the production of Demons further. Thus Devas were blessed by Lord. Thus Vastu sastra started from this place. Lord Siva is considered residing here with the powers of Bairava.

Main Deity here is Lakshmi Narashimar. The main sanctum is constructed on a Garuda shaped Rock.

Sri Vyasarajar of Madhva Siddantha Mahan visited this place hearing the glory of the temple. Purana says in his next birth he wasHis Holiness Sri Ragavendra of Madhava Peetam. He stayed in this place and worshiped Lord Narashimar. Anjaneyar in separate sanctum was installed by His Holiness Sri Ragavendrar.

The Purana says in Narashimar avatharm, Lord Vishnu had to rescue his devotee Prahladha with out much delay. He had to be present in everything, to make the words of Prahlada come true.Lord Vishnu did not wait for Garuda his Vahan.

Garuda was unhappy and he went in search of Lord Vishnu. He could not find Lord Narashimar. Finally Garuda reached Atthili where he started his penance on a rock. His penance was so severe; heat generated due to this was felt in Kailash and Vaikundam also.Devas approached Lord Vishnu to protect them. Lord Vishnu appeared before Garuda and blessed him. Lord Vishnu granted boons to him. Garuda wanted Lord Vishnu to bless him in the form of Narashimar. He requested Lord Narashimar to stay back and protect mankind in the same way as he did for Prahladha.

This is the reason for the rock to be in the form of Garuda and Lord Narashimar is seen here with Lakshmi Devi on his lap.
