Koil Thiru Maagalam:



The place Thiru Maagalam is about 4 kms south of Peralam, of Thiruvarore District.



The temple is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam. The main Raja gopuram is of five storeys with two prakarams facing east.







Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Maakalanadhar and his consort known as Achamtavirtha Nayaki.



Tertham is Maagla Teertham and Sthala Vruksham is Marudha maram.



We see sanctums of Achamtavirtha Vinayakar, Murugan, Kaali, Thyagesar, Naga kannigai, Nayanmars, Madhanga Muni, Subramanyar, Maha Lakshmi, Durgai and Chandekesar.



Kali worshiped Lord Siva in this place, hence the place is known as Maaglam. “Madhanga muni” worshiped Lord Siva in this place. He was blessed to have “Umadevi”as his daughter. “Somasi Nayanar” performed a yaga here in this place. Lord Siva was pleased and appeared in person to have the havirbagam and blessed him.



Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Sundarar and Thiru Navukkarasar have made a mention about the place in their hymns.



Stone inscriptions of 1st Kulothungan and Vikrama Cholan period are seen in the temple.

Thilai vilagam Ramar Temple. Thiruthurai poondy.

Thillai Vilagam: Ramar Temple.



This place is about 20 Kms from Thiruthurai poondy. The place is also known a Pundareeka Vanam.



The main Raja Gopuram of temple is of five storeys with, Artha mandapam, Maha mandapam and Sobana mandapam with two prakaram.



Main Deity is Panchalokha moortham of Veera Kodanda Ramar with Seetha Devi, Lakshmana, and Hanuman in standing posture facing east.



Sthala puranasays Sri Rama stayed in this place on his way back to Ayodhya. Sthala Vruksham is Thillai Maram and Teertham is Seetha teertham, Rama teertham, Hema pushkarani and Hanuman Teertham.



The idol of Sri Rama is made of pancha lokam with fine details like nerves, fingers, nails, the lines on the palm, and all other features are sharp and neatly molded. One can see the life in the idol and looks as though the Lord Sri Rama is in person before us to bless.

Vadakdu / Koiloore. Thiruthurai poondy.

Vadakadu / Koiloore



The place Vadakadu is about three kms to north of Mutthupettai. Now the place is known as Koiloor. This is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam.


Renovation work is going on in the temple. The main Raja Gopuram of the temple is of five storeys with two prakaram. There is a mandapam outside the temple premises with beautiful sculptures








Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Mantharapureeswarar which is white in colour and his known as Perriyanayaki Amman.








Teertham of the temple is Hanuman, Markandeya and Gowthama teertham and sthala Vruksham is Mango tree. Vinayakar is known as Suthavana Vinayakar and we see Jurahareswarar as we go around the prakaram.




Sthala purana says “Ramar, Hanuman, Sugreeva and Lakshmana” worshiped Lord Siva of this place. Sri Rama had Manthra Upadesam from Lord Siva of this place, hence the name “Manthrapureeswarar” for Lord Siva here. Sri Rama discussed about constructing bridge over sea, with Lord Siva here, hence the place is known as “Usathanam.”



Viswamithrar had darshan of Lord Siva’s dance here. Varunan was cured of leprosy and blessed by Lord Siva here in Vdakadu. Markandeya worshiped Lord Siva in this place after having a dip in the Yama Teertham which was dug by him. When Yama tried to catch Markandeya, impressions formed on his body. This was cleared when Markandeya worshiped Lord Siva here.



Adiseshan worshiped Lord Siva here. When Garuda was flying with Amudha Kalasam drop of nectar fell on Siva Lingam here, which turned out to white in colour says sthala purana.



Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang Hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Stone inscriptions belonging to the period of Vikrama Chola Devar, Sundara Pandiyan, 3rd Rajendra Cholan, 3rd Kulothunga cholan are there.



Edumbavanam temple, Thiruthurai poondy.

Edumbavanam Temple.



This place Edumbavanam is about 12 kms from Thiruthurai poondy. This is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam. The temple main Gopuram is of three storeys with single prakaram..







Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Sargunadeswarar and his consort known as Mangala Nayaki amman.



Teertham is Setha pushkarani, Moksha pushkarani and Sthala vruksham is Vilvam.



Other deities seen in the temple are Vinayakar, Murugan, Sooryan, Agathiyar, Edumbai, Sani Bagawan, Durgai, Natarajar and Lingothbavar.




Edumbai worshiped Lord Siva and was blessed hence the place is known as Edumbavanam.




Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place, and Appar mentioned about Lord Siva of this place in his Thiru Thandakam.



Thru Kadikkulam / Karpaganadhar Kulam temple, Thiruthurai poondy.

Thiru Kadikulam / Karpaganadhar kulam.



This place Kadikulam is about 2 kms East from Edumbavanam, which is about 12 kms from Thiruthurai poondy.



The main gopuram of the temple is of three storeys and single prakaram. This temple is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam.







Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Karpaga nadhar facing east and his consort known a Sowndara Nayaki ammai. Lingam is of octagon shape.







In This temple Vinayakar is known as Karpaga Vinayakar. Teertham is Karpaga Teertham and Sthala Vruksham is Jack Fruit tree.



Sthala Purana says the temple was built by an Asura known as Karthikarjunan, who worshiped Lord Siva and was blessed by him. Karpaga Vinayakar worshiped Lord Siva and got the mango fruit from him. Sri Rama worshiped Karpaga Vinayakar in this temple, earlier when he was planning to construct the bridge at Vedaranyam to Sri Lanka.


A Brahmin came to this place with ashes in his hand to perform rituals for his father. To his surprise the ashes turned out to be Kondrai flower.

    The place is about 12 kms SE from Kuttha nallore. The place can be reached from Mavoore cross road and take the road leading to Vadapathi mangalam.



    This temple is one of 275 Devara sthalam. The temple main Raja Gopuram is of five storeys with prakaram.


    Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Rathna pureeswarar and his consort known as Mangalambikai Amman.



    Pushkarani is Soorya Teertham seen in front of the temple, and Kari teertham at the back of the temple. Sthala Vruksham known as Maavilangai



    As we go around the prakaram, deities seen in the temple are Vinayakar, Murugan, Viswanadhar, Visalakshi, Gajalakshmi, Dakshina Moorthy, Lingothbavar and Kotpuli Naynar.



    Purna says elephant worshiped lord Siva in this place and attained Moksha. The pushkrani made by elephant is known as Kari teertham . Lord Siva is also known as “Karinaleswarar.”



    This is the birth place of Kotpuli Nayanar. When Sundarar visited the temple Nayanar asked his two daughters to take care of him as servants. Sundarar adopted them as his daughters.


    Purana >says when “Sundarar” came to temple he did not find Lord Siva in the sanctum. He prayed to Lord “Ganesha,” to help him to find Lord Siva. Ganesha showed his hands in the direction where Lord Siva was seen as, farmer working in the field along with his consort. Sundarar sang Hymns on Lord Siva, who disappeard from the field and was seen inside the sanctum.




    Sundarar sang Hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Appar has contributed two hymns on Lord Siva.

Keeralathur / Thiru Kollikadu Temple. Thiruthurai Poondy.

    The place Thiru Kollikadu is about 15 Kms to North from Thiruthurai poondy, and 16 kms South of Thiruvarore. This temple Keeralathur is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam.







    Main deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Agnieeswarar facing west and his consort known as Panjin Melladi Ammai.



    Sthala Vruksham is Vilvam. Teertham is Agni Teertham.



    Agni Devan worshiped Lord Siva of this temple and was blessed by him, hence the name Kollikadu for this place. Sani Bagwan is important in this place.Sani Bagawn meditate here and was blessed by Lord Siva in the form of Agni,and bestowed him as Anugraha moorthy. Here sani Bagawan is considered as Pongu sani, and one who worship him here,in this place is blessed, by him.



    Here in this temple we see Navagraha in the shape of tamil letter pa. (they are in line to three sides.

Thiru Thengoore Temple, Thiruthuri pondy.

  1. Thiru Thengoore:



    The Thengoore is about 16 Kms north of Thiruthurai poondy / 15 kms south of Thiruvarore. This temple is one of 275 Siva Devara sthalam.







    Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Vallimalai Nadhar facing east and his consort known as Periyanayaki Amman.



    Teertham is known as Sivagangai and Sthala Vruksham is Vilvam.



    As per sthala puranam at the end of the yugam, everything was washed away by ocean. This place was left unaffected and surrounded by water, hence the name Thengoore. The place is rich with coconut tree hence the name Thengoore.



    Thirumagal worshiped Lord Siva which is seen in front of the sanctum. Navagrahas, Ganges, Beeshmar, Dhronar, Agalya and Pandavas worshiped Lord Siva of this place and were blessed. There are nine Siva lingams worshiped by Navagrahas is seen as we go around the prakaram.




    Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Appar and Sundarar also contributed poems on praise of Lord Siva of this place. Stone inscriptions are seen in temple.
