Following is list of temples belonging to 8-10th century in Kumbakonam area. the place u can call as a temple town. Our option of temples were important Siva temples numbering 276 and important Vishnu temples numbering 108.

We visited these temples during christmas holidays of 2006. Spent 1 full week covering these temples with base at Kumbakonam. Preferred mode of transport for visiting these temples is to hire a taxi with a local driver.

Importantly remember all temples are closed during 12:00 - 16:00hrs. The approximate cost for a group of 5, hiring a taxi is Rs.3000 which included taxi and food.

We stayed at my brother's place which saved the boarding expense. Boarding expense in Kumbakonam is moderate.

The temples are very old and "nayanmars" (Renowned devotees, who composed hymns in praise of lord) sighted the respective lord. we were able to cover a part of the list of temples which we planned. I only hope we will be able to see rest of places also.

Vishnu started his pooja and he was not aware of the number and at the end of pooja he knew he needs one more flower and he immediately removed his eyes and offered, to complete his pooja.

Lord Siva was very pleased and asked what for Vishnu has worshipped him, and he gave the sudarshna chakkra which Vishnu asked him. Here the utsava vigraha is with flower in one hand and with an eye in another hand.

Here the pooja is done without touching the deity because the they say Siva here is Teenda thirumeny nadhar with kavacham always.

Sambandhar and Navakkuarasar sang hymns on Siva of this place.
