Nannilam / Madhuvanam:

Madhuvaneswarar Temple is known as Nannilam Perungkoil on the banks of River Mudikondan. This is one of 275 Siva Devara sthalam. It is a Madakkoil built by Cochengat cholan. There are two prakaram.

The temple is in the town Nanilam which is about 25 kms from Mailaduthurai and about 15 kms from Thiruvarore. The place is also known as Devaranyam, and Bragathpuram

Main deity is swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Madhuvaneswarar / Prakasa Nadhar, and his consort known as Periya Nayaki / Prakasa Nayaki.

Sthala purana says Devas worshiped Lord Siva from this place and hence the name Devaranyam. Teertham is Deva teertham. Yama, Varuna, Indra and Kubera installed Siva lingam and worshiped in this place.

Since it is a madakoil we have to climb few steps to reach the main sanctum. We see Agasthesar in the ground level first prakaram.

Sundarar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place.
