Thiru Vadhigai, Thiru
Veeratteswarar Temple.
This is one of the Devara Sthalam of Nadu Nadu. The temple
is also one of Atta Veeratta Sthalam.
The temple is about 23 kms from Vizhupuram in Banruti on the
bank of River Kedila.
The main Raja Gopuram of the temple is of seven tiers. There
are three prakaram in the temple.

Unique factor is Vimaanam of main inner sanctum is so huge;
the shadow does not fall down on the ground. We see beautiful sculptures
painted colorfully on the sanctum Vimanam.

There is beautiful sculpture to either side of the walls.
Sthala Vruksham is Kondrai.
Teertham is Chakkra, Soola and Garuda teertham.
Main Deity is
Swayambu Lingam known as Arulmigu Veratteswarar and his consort known as
Tripura Sundari Amman in separate sanctum facing east. Upper portion of Lingam
has sixteen sides.
As we go around the inner prakaram we see sanctums of
Vinayakar sanctum, Tripuranthakar,
Dakshina Moorthy, Natarajar, Chandeesar, Sooryan, Bairavar,
Naalvar,
Pancha Boodha Lingam,
Naanmuka Lingam, Thirumal, Arumugan, 63 Nayanmars,
Navagraham, Tilakavathy, Thiru Navukkarasar, and
Sekezhyar sanctum.
Samharam of Three asurars namely Vidhyunmali, Tharukashan
and Kamalakshan by Veeratteswarar took place here. Brave action of Lord is
known as Tripura Samharam.
Thiru Navukarasar was relived out of his ailment. Sundara
Moorthy Nayanar was blessed by Lord and he acquired Thiruvadi Deeksha in this
place. Tilakavadhyaar spent her time in doing service to lord.

Thir Gyana Sambandhar, Thiru Navukkarasar, Sundarar, sang
Hymn on Lord Siva of this place.
Arunagiri Nadhar sang Thirupugazh on Lord Murugan here.
The temple is in Kancheepuram district. The place is about 20kms west of Singaperumal koil, on Chennai – Vizhupuram National High way.
This is a very old temple of more than 1000years constructed by King Bageerathan, who was ruling Sankondpuram of Ilanji Kingdom.
The temple has main Raja Gopuram of five tiers with a big mandapam to front.
As we enter inside through the main door, we find a big Dwajasthambam
Main deity is Arulmigu Subramanya Swamy with Valli & Devasena. Arunagirinadhar sang Tirupugazh on Lord Murugan of this temple.
Here, the pushkarani of the temple is known as Vajra Teertham and Sthala Vruksham is Padiri tree.
Indara wanted to worship Lord Murugan. He approached his Guru Brahaspathyto guide him. Indra was asked to worship Lord Subramanya of Vallakottai by his Guru. Indra came to this place and he used his weapon Vajra to make a pond. He used the water from the pushkarani to worship Lord Subramanya. Hence the pushkarani is known as Indra Teertham and Vajra teertham.
There was a fort in which there was an Asura named Vallan. He was giving lot of trouble to Devas, who prayed to Lord Subramanya to help them. Lord Murugan killed the Asura. To fulfill the wish of Asura, Lord Murugan named the place as Vallan Kottai, which became Vallakottai over a period.
Sthala Purana says King Bageeratha was ruling Sankondapuram of Illanji Kingdom. Once when Sage Naradha visited his place he ignored him out of pride. Sage Naradha wanted to teach him a lesson. When he left the place he met asura named Koran who was celebrating his victory. Sage thought he can use Koran to teach a lesson for King Bageerathan. He addressed Koran and said your victory is nothing unless you defeat King Bageeratha. Koran waged war against Bageerathan King of Illangi. It was least expected, and Bageeradhan lost the battle and left the kingdom.
In the forest he met Sage Naradha, and begged for pardon. He asked him to guide, to get back his kingdom again. Sage Naradha asked him to meet Sage Durvasa and proceed according to his guidance. Sage Durvasa asked him to worship Lord Subramanya under the Padiri Tree on Fridays and get the blessing of Lord Murugan. King did as he was asked and he was blessed. King Bageeradha constructed a temple for Lord Subramanya in this place and the padiri tree is sthala Vruksham of the temple.
Arunagirinadhar was on visit to Murugan temples. After his visit to Thiru Porur he wanted to proceed to Thiruthani and rested for the night. In his dream Lord Subrananya said you have missed Vallakottai Murugan. Next day Arunagirinadhar visited Vallakotai Murugan and sang Thirupugazh on Lord Subramanya.
Katteel Durga
Katteel Durga is about 90 kms distance from Dharmasthala. We had to take a turn at Guruvayanakere towards Moodabidri, while traveling from Dharmathala and Mangalore highway. From here the place is about 40 kms.
The River Netravathy is flowing around the temple. The shrine is like an island on the River Netravathy.
There is an arch near the entrance.
We have to cross the River Netravathy,through a small bridge, to enter into the temple.
We see the Gopuram of main inner sanctum of Durga Parameswari.
This is the corridor leading to the sanctum.
Inside the sanctum we to southern side we see Sri Maha Ganapathy and Sastha (Iyappan).In front of Ganapathy we find steps leading us to River Netravathy. They have put grill for safety purpose.
We come to the main sanctum of Goddess Durga Parameswari in sitting posture. The distance is a bit long from were public is allowed for darshan. We had good darshan, but it was not very clear to feel the full satisfaction.
This is the picture of Durga Parameswari to wall. We had a glimpse at it and then we had darshan of Durga Parameswari in the sanctum. We had a little satisfaction after that about our drshan of Matha.
As we go around we see a sanctum which is covered to all three side wall with silver. In it we see a picture of Durga Parameswari in gold sheet framed and hanged to wall.
To side walls we see pictures of Geethopadesam.
We see Kshetrapalakar to south west side within the temple. Beside it Naga Devata is seen.
As we come out this is the main entrance door covered with silver sheet.

Few yards away Nagaraja is seen on a platform.
Sthala Purana:
When Durga parameswari slew Sumba and Nisumba, Arunasuran, a rakshas ran out of the battle field and became the leader for Rakshas .Arunasura meditated and acquired boon from Lord Brahma. With this grant he lost fear of death. Goddess Saraswathy blessed with Gayatri Mantra. He started troubling Sages; Rishi’s when they were doing Yaga. There was no rain and the people had to suffer out of draught condition.
Looking at the draught condition Japali Maharishi decided to perform Yagna to please Devas. He approached Devandran and requested him to send Kamadenu with him to perform the Yagna. Since Kamadenu was not available at that moment he agreed to give Nandini the daughter of Kamadenu.
Japali Maharishi requested Nandini to come with him. Nandini was not happy with people living on earth and refused to come with him. When Japali Maharishi knew that she was very firm in her decision, he cursed her to flow as a River on Earth. She realized her mistake and prayed for his mercy. Maharishi asked her to pray to Goddess to get free from the curse.
Nandini meditated to Goddess Adi Sakthi. She was pleased with Nandini and asked her to flow as a River and in due course she will be born as daughter to her. She will be purified from the curse of Japali Maharishi She was happy with the assurance Adi Sakthi gave, and emerged from Kanakagiri and started flowing down as River.
Arunasura defeated Devas, who inturn pleaded Adi Sakthi to resque them. She says unless he stops chanting Gayatri Mantra he will not be put into trouble and no one can defeat him. She asked them to send Brahaspathy to distract his meditation from chanting Gayatri Mantra. Brahaspathy flattered him and was able to distract him from chanting Gayatri Mantra.
Goddess appeared as beautiful teenage girl. Arunasura went near her, then she reminde him, about the defeat of Sumba, Nisumban and how he ran away from the battle field. Arunasura got angry and tried to kill her with his sword. Goddess turned into a stone. His sword hit the stone, stream of bees emerged from the stone. He was surrounded by the bees and stung to death.
After entering from the main entrance we see a big rock to left. This rock is known a Rakteswari.
Maharishi Japali performed abisheka with tender coconut water here and requested Bramarambika (Queen of Bees) to bless mankind. Durga Matha appeared in her “Sowmya Roopam “ in the middle of the River. Temple is constructed in the same place.
