Thiru Kayaroganeswarar Siva temple, of Nagapattinam.



The place Nagapattinam is about 25 kms from Thiruvarore.








This is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam in Nagapattinam town. The temple is one of Saptha Vidanga Sthalam and he is known as Sundara Vidangar... The place is one of Mukthi sthalam and considered equal to Kasi Kshetram.













Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Kayaroganeswarar and his consort known as Neelayadakshi Amman. This is one of Sakthi Peetam. Urchavar here, known as Chandra shekarar. Sthala Vinayakar of this temple is known as Nagabarana Vinayakar. Thyagesar sannidhi is next to main sanctum. At the back of main Lingam in the sanctum we see Somaskanda moorthy.








Amman sannidhi is separate sanctum with a kodi maram in front. Here Ambal is like a teenage girl before marriage. Nandi Devar in the temple of Ambal sanctum in front is seen with his head turned towards Lord Siva’s Sanctum.



Purana says Nandi in this sanctum, was appointed to take care of Ambal who is teenage girl before marriage. Since Nandi is devotee of Lord Siva he said he wanted to have darshan of Lord Siva always. Lord asked him to stay here and have darshan of Him.
This is the reason for Nandi turning his face towards Lord Siva’s Sanctum. Nandi eye is sculptured in such way one eye is looking at Lord Siva and the other eye towards Ambal.


Sthala Vruksham is Mango tree and teertham known as Pundareeka teertham and Deva teertham.





There is a big Nandi seen in mandapam.






We see beautiful sculptures related stories of the temple on the top of the mandapam to four sides.






Importance of this place is Adiseshan worshiped Lord Siva here. Adipattha Nayanar was born in this place and attained Mukthy here. King Dasarathaworshiped installed Sani Bagawan in this temple and worshiped. Ashtabuja Durgai and Asthabuja Bairavar are seen as we go around the prakaram. Arumugan is seen with Thiruvasi and 12 hands holding weapons.


Lord Murugan, Thirumal, Agasthiyar, Vashistar, Musukunda Chakkravarthy, worshiped Lord Siva and they were blessed by Him. Lord Siva of this temple was worshiped by Saptha Rishis.



Sthala Purana says Pundareeka Muni, meditated and worshiped Lord Siva to attain “Mukthi” He was guided by Kanva maharishi to do so. Lord Siva was pleased and “He” embrased Muni and gave Mukthi. Hence Lord Siva is known as Kayaroganeswarar.
Azhuguni chittar jeeva samadi is in the temple.



Thiru Gyanasambandhar, Thiru Navukkarasar and Sundarar sang Hymns on Lord Siva of this place. Arunagiri Nadhar composed Thirupugazh on Lord Murugan of this temple.


Stone inscriptions of First Rajarajan and Kulothungan period are seen in temple.

Thiru Naganadhar temple: Thiru Nagoore, Nagapattinam.



The place Nagoore is about 5 kms from Nagapattinam. The Raja Gopuram of the temple is of five tiers and a prakaram. The temple is dates back to some 2000 years.








Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Naganadhar and his consort, known as Nagavalli Amman.







The place is known as Punnaga Vanam. Sthala vruksham is Punnai. Teertham here, known as Chandra Teertham.



In Tamil month of Vaigasi (May/ June) full moon day Sri Naganadhar emerged under the Punga Vruksham in presence of Lord Vishnu.



Brahma Indran, Chandran, Saptha Rishi, Durvasa Muni, Samudra Rajan, and a Brahmin named Rudhirasanman worshiped Sri Naganadha Swamy of this place..



To the inner prakaram, there is a separate sanctum with mandapam for Sri Raghu Bagawan. Inside the sanctum we see Sri Naga Valli, Sri Nagakanni Ambal samedha Sri Kanni Raghu Bhagwan.



Sthala purana says he was been worshiped by these persons in all four yugam. In Tamil month of Ani (June / July) full-moon day for ten days, as Brahmotsawam, Chandran worships Lord Siva and he was blessed.



In Tamil month of Masi (Feb/March) full-moon day for ten days as Brahmotsavam, Indra worshiped Lord Siva and was blessed by Sri Naganadhar.



A Brahmin known as Sambudattan with, his wife and son was living in forest. He was living in forest to penance. One day the small boy while playing in the forest happen to see the mating of Takkan (king of Serpents)with his wife. Takkan realized the boy has witnessed this action; due to his karma Takkan chased the boy. He was bitten and lost his life. In the mean time Brahmin’s wife was worried about the where about of his son. She asked her husband to go in search for the child.



When Sambudattan went in search of his son he found him dead. Brahmin with his superficial power came to know the cause of death. He cursed Takkan to abandon from Naga Lokha, and he will be alone in the forest on earth. Takkan will loose his intelegence and power. Takkan was worried and he prayed to Brahmin, for solution to get out of the curse. Brahmin said after a period 1000 years, when Takkan meets his father Kasyap, he will be out of his curse.Takkan (Naga Raja) worshiped Lord Siva here in Tamil month of Masi (Feb/ March)on Sivarathri day.




On Sivarathri day Lord Siva is worshiped four times. Thakkan performed first time pooja in Sri Nagandha swamy temple of Vilvaranya kshetram at kumbakonam, Second Kala pooja at Thiru Nageswarm temple Sri Nagandhar of Champakranya Kshetram, third kala pooja at Thirupampurm temple Sri Nagandhar of Vanni Vanam, and finally fourth kala Pooja at Sri Nganadha Swamy of Punnaga Vanam. He got rid of his curse and attained Mukthy at the feet of Sri Naganadha swamy of Punnaga Vanam, Thiru Nagoore.



Sthala purana says one who has Raghu Dosha, they can worship Kanni Raghu of this temple. By worshiping Naganaddhar here one is blessed with Gyanam. This is a prihara sthalam for Raghu.

Jagan Nadhar Temple :







The temple is in Banjara Hills, Road NO: 12. The temple architect is exactly like Jagan Nadhar Temple of Puri, Orissa.







Temple has entrance from three sides. At the entrance there is an Arch and Garuda sthambam is seen as we enter inside.







Climb a few steps to enter into a hall were we first have darshan of Garuda pillar and enter into the main sanctum. Here we see Bala Rama Krishna and Subdra.











To the left there is a separate sanctum for Ganesha and Lord Siva. After the darshan of Ganesha and Lord Siva, we continue to go around the prakaram.




Here, we see an entrance arch leading inside temple premises. As we proceed to the left corner a sanctum for Vimala Devi.








Now we are exactly to the back of main sanctum. Here at the rear entrance there is an entrance arch.







We continue with our round were to the right corner there is a sanctum for Maha Lakshmi. After having darshan of her we come to Navagraha seen in a mandapam.












There is a sanctum for Hanuman near the Navgraha mandapam.



Stories related to Krishna and Sri Rama is sculpture and painted to the inner sides of temple compound walls.






The temple is well maintained and kids will enjoy their visit to the temple.

Yazhmoori Nadhar Temple, Dharmapuram, Pudhuchery.

Yazhmoori Nadhar Temple: Dharmapuram, Pudhuchery.






The place Dharmapuram is about 4 Kms from Karikal. The temple has a Raja gopuram of three tiers and two prakaram. This is One of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam.







Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Yazhmoori Nadhar and his consort known as Theynamirtha Valli in a separate sanctum. Siva Lingam is seen with Silver kavacham in this temple. Vinayakar is known as Karpaga Vinayakar.



Sthala Vruksham is Plantain and Teertham of the temple known as Brahma teertham.



As we go around the prakaram we come across sanctum of Vinayalkar, Viswanadhar, Lingothbavar, Murugan, Gaja Lakshmi, Maha Vishnu, Durgai, and Chandikeswarar . Mahishasuran is seen at the back of Durgai.



Importance of the temple is Lord Siva played music in the instrument known as Yazh. Dakshina Moorthy other form of Lord Siva was listening to the music in slightly relaxed form. Here in this temple Dkshina Moorthy is seen slightly slanting to back.



Thiru Neelakanda Yazhpana Nayanar and his wife were great devotees of Lord Siva. They heard of service rendered by Thiru Gyana Sambandhar and joined him in visiting temples. Sambandhar used to sing Hymns on lord Siva, for which Yazhpanar used to play his instrument Yazh. He was feeling proud of his instrumental music perfection to all the Hymns of Sambandhar. Lord Siva wanted to teach him a lesson to bring down his ego.



Next day when they reached this place and Sambandhar sung Hymn on Lord Siva Yazhpana Nayanar was unable to tune with his instrument. He felt bad for his in- capability. He thought of breaking his instrument and suicide. At this hour Lord Siva revealed himself and played the instrument and danced for the same composition for which Yazhpana Nayanar was able to do in the morning. Listening to the music he got rid of the ego. Hence Lord Siva is known as Yazhmoori Nadhar.

Ambal sang when Lord Siva played the instrument and she did Abishekam for the Siva
Lingm with Honey and Amrutham(Nector) hence she is known as Theynamritha Valli.



Sthala Puranam Says, Yama lost his post, when he tried to take Markandeya’s soul by his pasam. Siva got angry and destroyed him, and he lost his post. Yama regretted for his act and requested Lord Siva to give back his post. Lord Siva said at appropriate time he will get his post once again. Yama came down and started visiting temples and penanced.



No one was there to do Yama’s job. There was no deaths occurring and Boodevi was feeling difficult. She prayed Lord to give life for Yama and help her. Yama when he came to this place he was given life again. Her he dug a pushkarani and worshiped Lord Siva and got back his post again. Teertham is known as Yama Teertham.


Thiru Gyana Sambandhar sang Hymns on Lord Siva of this place.
