- Thiru Veezhimizhalai: This is one of 275 Siva Devara Sthalam.
The place is bout 10 kms from Nannilam on the banks of River Arasalaru. The temple Rajagopuram is of seven storeys and three prakarams.
Min deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Veezhinadheaswarar and his consort Sundra Kuchambikai. Vinyakar in the temple is known as Pdikasu Vinayakar. Teertham is known as Vishnu teertham which seen in front of the temple. Sthala vruksham is known as Thiruveezhi.
Importance: Lord Siva married Kathyaya muni’s daughter Umadevi and he is seen in bridal form in this temple. We can see Kalyana sundarar embracing umadevi when we go around the temple. When you observe the sculpture from one end it looks as though uma Devi is angry with Lord Siva and from other angle you notice a smile on her face. Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Siva in this place and obtained Chakkrayudhm. Thiru Gyana Sambandhar, and Thiru Navukkarasar worshipped Lord Siva here and each obtained gold coin which they used for feeding their disciples. Swethu kethu worshipped and he was relieved of his fear of Yama.
As we enter inside the temple after worshipping dwajasthambam and Nandi we enter into a nandi mandapam which is in the shape of Bat and this is seen like this only in this place. The mandapam is known as Vowwall (bat) mandapam.
The main sanctum door is not too wide. We see Swayambu Lingam Thiru veezhi nadhar and at the back of the Lingam we see a big sculpture of Siva and Umadevi. This is visible only when Aarthy is given. They say it is the marriage form of Lord Siva and Umadevi. The sculptures of Kalyana Sundarar and Umadevi are famous. Lord Vishnu worshipped Siva by offering his eyes which is in the form of Lotus at the feet of Kalyana sundarar.
Thiru Gyana sambandhar and Thiru Navukkarasar sang hymns on Lord Siva of this place.
Arunagirinadhar sang Thirupugazh on Lord Murugan here.
By worshipping and garlanding Lord Siva and Umadevi, all hurdles for the delay in marriage get cleared.
